The Building Toilets for Girls project was an initiative undertaken at the Government Bilingual High School Penda Mboko in the Littoral Region of Cameroon. We identified a need for a separate girls toilet in 2016 after learning that the female students have to use the same toilets as boys, which have no doors. This meant that the privacy of girls was not guaranteed, leading many girls to avoid using the toilets altogether. This project, which serves the school’s female students aged 11-17, is an important step in ensuring that girls feel more comfortable at school.
