Freedom to Decide Movement

A bold, feminist platform mobilising young people for bodily autonomy, reproductive justice and gender equality.

Building a Movement for Change

We are building a movement for bodily autonomy, reproductive justice and gender equality. This movement is a bold, feminist platform that mobilises young people to claim their rights, challenge harmful norms, and shape policies that affect their bodies, relationships and futures.

The Freedom to Decide Movement is grounded in reproductive justice: the right to decide if, when and how to have children, the right to live free from violence and coercion, and the right to raise families in safe, supportive communities. Through the movement, we are centring the voices of adolescents, young women, and marginalised groups, ensuring they are not just beneficiaries of programmes, but leaders of change.

Why FDM Exists

Across Cameroon, many young people face:
Limited access to accurate sexual and reproductive health information
Stigma around contraception, menstruation, and consent
Gender-based violence and harmful traditional practices
Exclusion from decision-making spaces that affect their lives
FDM exists to shift power, challenge silence, and build a generation that is informed, confident and politically active around issues of health, rights and equality.

Our Approach

FDM combines advocacy, youth leadership, research, and creative expression to drive change at community, institutional and policy levels.

Volunteer Opportunities

FDM leads youth-driven campaigns that:

• Challenge harmful gender norms
• Promote consent and bodily autonomy
• Demand youth-friendly SRHR services
• Influence local and national policies

Youth Leadership

Through fellowships, ambassador programmes and peer networks, FDM:

• Trains young advocates and organisers
• Builds leadership skills and political awareness
• Supports youth-led initiatives and community projects

Research & Youth Voices

FDM uses youth participatory action research (YPAR) to:

• Document young people's experiences
• Identify barriers to health and justice
• Generate evidence for advocacy and policy change

Creative & Digital Activism

The movement harnesses the power of arts and media to:

• Produce podcasts, short films and social media campaigns
• Create music, dance and visual storytelling
• Develop youth-friendly digital platforms and tools
